High Afro-alpine plateau landscapes

Southern Ethiopia · Optional extension
Sanetti Plateau
Bale Mountains National Park; high Afro-alpine plateau
About
Sanetti Plateau
The Sanetti Plateau is a high-altitude Afro-alpine landscape — open moorland, giant vegetation forms suited to elevation, and known habitat for the Ethiopian wolf. It is a centrepiece of the optional Bale extension: wide horizons, thin air and a mountain character different from Simien’s escarpment drama.
Wildlife viewing is opportunistic. Weather can close in quickly at altitude. Walking distances and vehicle sections are adjusted to group fitness and conditions. Summit-style goals are not the point; the plateau itself is the experience.
