Cloud forest and Afromontane vegetation on Bale’s southern slopes

Southern Ethiopia · Optional extension
Harenna Forest
Southern slopes of Bale Mountains National Park; cloud forest zone
About
Harenna Forest
Harenna Forest covers much of Bale’s southern flank: mist, dense Afromontane forest and a sharp ecological drop from the Sanetti Plateau above. On the 4-day Bale extension it typically anchors Day 4 — forest time and the beginning of the return toward Addis Ababa.
The forest offers birds, plant diversity and a closed-canopy atmosphere after days of open plateau and Omo light. Trails and road sections depend on weather; mud and cloud are normal. As elsewhere, wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.
