UNESCO mountain park with multiple ecological zones

Southern Ethiopia · Optional extension
Bale Mountains National Park
Southeastern Ethiopian highlands; UNESCO World Heritage Site; distinct from South Omo geographically but offered as optional extension after the southern journey
About
Bale Mountains National Park
Bale Mountains National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of volcanic peaks, Afromontane moorlands and cloud forest. It adds an entirely different ecosystem after Omo and Rift travel: Afro-alpine plateaus, Ethiopian wolf habitat on the Sanetti Plateau (sightings not guaranteed), and the Harenna Forest on the southern slopes.
Offered as an optional 4-day extension after The Southern Ethiopia Journey, Bale suits travellers who want wildlife and high-altitude nature after cultural lowland days. Park routes and conditions vary; trekking and vehicle access are planned around season and fitness.
